  Community Projects Team

HRH The Prince of Wales in TetburyBackground

The Community Projects Team was formed at the start of 2005 in order, initially, to write up the results of the Tetbury Market Towns Healthcheck/Town Study and address the issues arising from it.

Role of the Team

The Team’s first tasks have been to:
• write the text to accompany the results of research by members of the public relating to  Tetbury’s environment, community, transport, and economy
• seek the community’s views on the most important issues facing Tetbury.

Tetbury Town Council worked in Partnership with the community to develop an action plan and the Community Projects Team designed a consultation mechanism for this process.  This began with the launch of the Tetbury Partnership in October 2005 and with a further action planning event held in March 2006.  Attendees were drawn from all over Tetbury and included many organisations from the stator, voluntary and community sectors as well as individual members of the public.

The current focus of our work is on:
• identifying projects which will address the priorities in the action plan
• implementing those projects, or helping the Council’s partners to implement relevant projects
• monitoring progress against the Action Plan.

HRH The Prince of Wales & Duchess of Cornwall Planting TreeSome of our successes:
Partnership work

We enabled Tetbury Together to be formed from members of the community, with the main aims of:
• realising the Action Plan
• working together to maintain Tetbury and the surrounding area as a centre for social, business and cultural activities and preserve its character and heritage
• updating its objectives to take account of new issues and concerns.
As a result of partnership working with Tetbury Together and Cotswold District Council, we have:
• produced a crime leaflet on reporting crime and distributed copies to all households
• supported a Community Safety Week for senior citizens
• contributed to a √ It Out (Mini Expo) event.

Facilities for young people

We obtained funding and managed projects to install new main gates at the recreation ground and create popular facilities there:
• a skatepark
• a youth shelter
• a multi use games facilities.

Tetbury Tourism Partnership Group

We’ve worked in partnership with the Tourist Information Centre, the Chamber of Commerce and many individual stakeholders in the area to form the Tetbury Partnership Tourism Group. The aim of the Group is to promote tourism in Tetbury and the surrounding area in order to create a strong and vibrant local economy. We’ve obtained grants and contributions for the group so that it could fund:
• a new tourism brochure
• a new brand to make Tetbury promotions instantly recognizable
• a new, state-of –the-art, highly regarded tourism website
• a tourism marketing strategy.
